Live Laugh Love

by Earl Sweatshirt

Ever since Earl first popped onto the scene as the edgy rap genius of Odd Future, I've been a huge fan and it's been so amazing to see how his development as a person, over the years, translates into his music through so many different avenues. "Live Laugh Love", is no different in that regard. Playing on the popular motto, "live laugh love", that is often found plastered across household decor and associated with that of a "basic" family home, Earl speaks on the struggles he faces while entering into a new phase of his life, one of fatherhood and trying to build a family of his own, while trying to provide that family with a safe environment to grow. And while many of Earl's previous albums have been pretty dark, dreadful, and pessimistic, this album is the complete opposite. While you can feel some anxiety in relation to Earl trying to create a nurturing environment for his kids, this album leans more towards a uplifting and hopeful tone. But best believe it's still Earl, and he delivers some of the most exciting bars that are not only packed full of depth, but are also just as refreshing. Definitely one of my favorite albums of the year!

Reasonable Doubt

by JAY-Z

So recently I've been doing a deep dive into Jay-Z's discography, and I decided to listen to the albums that came out before my time in the order they were released. I'm extremely happy I chose to do it in that order. Reasonable Doubt is a master class on rap and hip-hop. There's literally no skips from the opening track to the closer, 15 songs later. For this to be his debut album is an insane feat in itself. Everything from the production, the lyricism, word play, storytelling, shit just his overall confidence in his delivery, and so much more, is top tier, even now, 29 years later. Now I'm not done going through the rest of his early discography, but after this I understand why Jay-Z is considered one of the greatest to ever do it.

Around the Fur

by Deftones

So I had never listened to or heard of Deftones until this year, but with their sudden explosion back into the mainstream late last year and early this year I decided to check them out. The first album I ended up checking out was their most recent album, "private music", but to my surprise I didn't really understand the hype. So after a few days I figured I'd dive into their back catalog and found that this album was one of their most popular so I threw it on...and BAM!!!! This is what I was expecting. An album and sound easily worthy of all the hype they were receiving. Loved it all the way through, front to back, beginning to end. Such a great listen.

Wow wow wow! I just randomly came across bib sama. from a twitter post about his song PRESSURE. It was such a refreshing sound that I had to find more, which is how I stumbled across this project. This man is next up for sure. Like he has the talent, and he's got a sound that is extremely unique, but familiar at the same time. Looking forward to hearing the name bib sama. a lot more in the future.

Man’s Best Friend

by Sabrina Carpenter

With "Man's Best Friend", Sabrina Carpenter delivers an album that's as playful as it is poignant, balancing her signature cheeky humor with raw emotion in a way that feels effortless. It's the finished product of an artist fully in her element, Throughout the album Sabrina is confident, flirt, and sharp, all while also being unafraid to dive into the messier sides of love and heartbreak. What stands out most is Sabrina's ability to speak naturally on sensuality, while being fun and alluring without veering into a more raunchy space. She's very clearly perfected the art of writing songs that are both seductive and clever, with lyrics that wink at the listener while still carrying some pretty serious emotional weight. The album also moves between moods fluidly. One minute it's a song roasting immaturity and bad partners, the next she's discussing how she now randomly finds and old friend super hot now that they're older, all while taking us for quite the emotional ride. One that's told in a compelling and relatable story, and showing off her incredible range to pull on our heartstrings with quips tossed in here and there to ease the blow. When she's playful, she's magnetic; when she's vulnerable, she's strikingly relatable. Her performances on each track are also so exciting, with a ton of confidence and full of personality. Personally I believe she's never sounded better, and she's already been showing just how could she is for years. The production also never lacks and matches her energy every track while blending elements of disco-pop, R&B, and pop into something cohesive yet varied to keep things exciting. Above all, "Man's Best Friend" feels like Sabrina completely owning her narrative. She doesn't just sing about heartbreak, she flips it on its head, turning pain into punchlines and vulnerability into empowerment. It's a record that's fun, flirty, emotional, and self-aware. For me, this album isn't just enjoyable, it's proof that Sabrina Carpenter has fully carved out a space into pop that's entirely her own.

STAR LINE

STAR LINE

by Chance the Rapper

I've been waiting for a new Chance Project for a minute, so I'm happy to say that he delivered with this one. Over the last few years since the release of "The Big Day", Chance has been releasing single after single, many of which touching on a variety of topics. From casual freestyles on "Wraith" and "A Bar About a Bar", to personal struggles we all go through on "The Highs & The Lows", or even religion and the black experience on "Child of God" and "YAH Know", Chance has been gearing us up for a project where he touches on all things that make him who he is, and the emotions that come from his experience living on this Earth. That's exactly what "STAR LINE" is, and I'm here for it. All in all Chance has delivered a topical project, packed full of some amazing features, from newer collaborators of his, like BabyChiefDoit and TiaCorine, to old friends in Vic Mensa. Definitely an album to check out!

This honestly has to be one of the greatest albums of my time. The lyrics, the pockets, the vibe, and don't even get me started on the production throughout this album. It's just all around great anyway you look at it.

JACKBOYS 2

by JACKBOYS

Now you know I had to check out JACKBOYS' new project, but unfortunately this time I was a little let down. Yes there are some songs I liked here and there, but a lot of them just kind of felt...whatever. Even the ones I did enjoy still felt pretty unforgettable. Biggest take aways definitely reside in the few verses from Sheck Wes and features from Kodak Black and Sahbabii. All in all it was an okay listen, but I probably won't be spinning this back again anytime soon. If a track came on the radio though I wouldn't be mad.

Virgin

by Lorde

Oh to be in New York City, walking the streets as a young adult. Mid 20s, entering the workforce, new friends, missing home, falling in love, dealing with the heartache of falling out of love, but some how still making do. Wandering through life with many questions about what's next, about if this is all there is to life? Just straight up confused, but trying to figure it all out. That's what Lorde has managed to capture in this album if you were to ask me. The sound of being lost and confused as you come into adulthood, learning who you are, what you want, who you love. A relatable multi-year experience packaged within these 35 minutes, of heartfelt lyrics and upbeat, yet melancholic beats.

DON'T TAP THE GLASS
@jordan_walker

DON'T TAP THE GLASS

by Tyler, The Creator

Tyler, Tyler, Tyler...what can I even say. Time and time again Tyler has proven that he's at the front of the pack and doesn't plan on letting up anytime soon. DON'T TAP THE GLASS is Tyler's 9th studio album, and brings everything you'd expect from him, with a fresh new twist. With new sounds clearly made to get you up and moving, to those we're more familiar with and almost reminiscent of those found on Cherry Bomb, but revamped with a fresh coat of paint, Tyler proves to us once again that he is perhaps the most versatile artist of my generation and clearly has a deep knowledge of his fans' own taste. Similar to nods found in the cover art that express Tyler's love for the music he grew up on, Tyler sprinkles similar details throughout the album through features from Busta Rhymes, Pharrell, and samples/interpolations. One of my favorites that can be found is on "Ring Ring Ring", where he seems to have taking inspiration from or sampled Cherrelle's "Saturday Love". All in all this album is a great listen, super fun and super sexy! Go give it a listen if you haven't already, and be ready to move that body!

Let God Sort Em Out

by Clipse

This was absolutely the return of Clipse that I needed, and it turned out to be one of the best albums of the year. This is the key example as to why it actually doesn't matter how old you are in the rap game, because if you got it you just got it. From Push and Malice's expertise over the english diction, Pharell's perfectly crafted soundscapes, and fresh takes from this generations big wigs in features from artist like Tyler, the Creator, this album has it all and does it all damn near to perfection. Please give this album a listen if you haven't already, you won't regret it.
